The UK Miscanthus harvest is now underway, with early cutting reported across Lincolnshire, Norfolk, and Yorkshire as growers begin cutting and baling.

In Lincolnshire, a strong start has been made, with a significant area already cut, some crops baled, and a number of harvest declarations submitted. Cutting began in Norfolk last week and is continuing across the region, with further areas of Lincolnshire also being harvested this week. Early activity has also been confirmed in Yorkshire, where two growers have already declared harvest.

Bale collections are set to commence from Wednesday 15th March, marking the start of movements into the supply chain.

Early indications from the field suggest good crop quality, although this will be confirmed as deliveries increase. Yields are expected to be variable following a challenging season, with dry conditions last summer followed by prolonged wet weather, but many growers are reporting workable crops coming forward.

As more material is delivered over the coming weeks, a clearer picture of the season will emerge, but early momentum shows a positive and active start to harvest across key growing regions.
