Key aspects of Terravesta operations and offerings
Industry Partnerships
Terravesta develops biomass supply projects in collaboration with industrial users, offering benefits such as low-moisture quality biomass, tailored logistics, growth opportunities with new plantings and new growers, and long-term index-linked supply contracts.
Comprehensive Services to Farmers
Terravesta provides a range of services to farmers, including specialised planting equipment, tested planting protocols, agronomic advice, high-quality planting material from Europe’s largest Miscanthus nursery, drone surveys, and long-term index-linked purchase contracts.
Dedicated Biomass Supply
Terravesta secures biomass supplies from dedicated fields located close to industrial plants, ensuring a reliable long-term and carbon negative source of high quality biomass.
As the supply comes from dedicated fields, industrial users do not have to compete for biomass on the open market, so they are not subjected to volatility and there is no shortage of supply.
Sustainability Focus
Miscanthus is a sustainable solution for farmers and nature, contributing to improved soil, air, and water health, biodiversity, and reduced fertiliser use. Terravesta aims to develop perennial Miscanthus crops that reduce atmospheric carbon and create new sustainable markets, materials, and products. Its biomass respects national and EU standards.
Biomass supply project development
A biomass project starts with a business case developed in collaboration with the industrial user. Done right, the local farming community is involved in growing the crops needed. Competent contractors are then hired to handle harvesting and transportation. Effective supply chain management ensures consistent delivery, contributing to sustainable energy production and environmental preservation.
Index linked prices
Terravesta signs long-term contracts with industrial users for the supply of sustainable biomass.
This guarantees a secure, index-linked income from unproductive land for 20 years or more to its network of farmers in the surrounding area.
Industrial users have long-term security of supply and are therefore protected from supply disruptions.
Terravesta ATHENA ™ Crop
The best performing commercial variety of Miscanthus x Giganteus on the market delivering the best possible returns and shortest break-even point to growers. It has undergone rigorous selection and development to ensure more vigorous, stronger, hardier plants with stable yields, tolerance to more extreme conditions and increased yields.
Large Miscanthus Nursery
Terravesta operates Europe’s largest Miscanthus rhizome nursery, capable of supplying thousands of hectares within a one-year period.
Specific nursery protocols are followed to ensure fresh and vigorous rhizomes for successful establishment.
Research and Development
Terravesta has a long history of successful R&D and is committed to working with academia, NGOs, governments and growers. Through an exclusive agreement with the University of Aberystwyth, Terravesta actively drives the commercial development of CVPO-protected hybrids with improved yield and technical traits to meet the specific needs of the industry in a range of climates.
European Projects
Terravesta is at the forefront of promoting Miscanthus as a versatile and sustainable crop and is involved in medium to large scale biomass projects.
These projects connect various stakeholders such as farmers, logistics companies, agricultural contractors and industrial users across the European continent for a cleaner and more sustainable future.
