Job Title: Operations Manager
Department: Terravesta Farming Ltd
Responsible to: Alex Robinson – Operations Director
Purpose of the Department:
To implement and manage the establishment of Miscanthus crops from contract through to first harvest.
Main Purpose of the Job:
The business is based in Lincoln, and the position will have a primary focus in Lincolnshire and the eastern counties, however, the successful candidate would be expected to travel nationwide.
- Provide effective and efficient day to day management of farming operations on acres of owned, hired and contracted land, working towards agreed targets and within set timescales
- Assist in overall financial budgeting for the department and work to optimise gross margins within agreed budget targets, and manage all variable inputs, labour and machinery costs as set by an agreed budget and strategy
- Maintain agreed high standards of quality and consistency of stored crops and ensure machinery assets are well maintained to maximise operational efficiency
- Responsibility on all farms for growing costs, maintaining records and management reporting
- Candidate must have at least 5 years’ experience managing large farming operation
Duties and key responsibilities:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with our landowners and customers through excellent communication and organisational skills, with the aim to encourage new business opportunities in the future
- Organise, control and monitor all crop establishment operations
- Maintain accurate records and crop costings
- Working in conjunction with the agronomists to maintain, coordinate and oversee all the day to day running of farming operations and be responsible for pre-establishment surveys, cultivations, planting, spraying and fertiliser applications, and oversee the crop walking on all Miscanthus crops to maintain high standards of emergence and crop performance
- Investigate and recommend strategies to maximise yields and reduce production costs
- Assist with Health & Safety and Risk Management as well as maintaining stock control and COSHH records
- Arrange and organise casual staff, training and machine maintenance to achieve agreed objectives and budgets
- Purchasing of arable inputs within an agreed budget
Salary: 45kpa, negotiable on experience
