Terravesta welcomes Jonathan Backhouse to the team this spring, as operations manager.

Key to his role is working with new growers to get Miscanthus off to the best possible start as well as supporting them through the crop’s life.

Jonathan’s background is rooted in agriculture, coming from an agri-engineering family, and he has held numerous posts on farms since leaving Harper Adams in 2006.

After training with a leading national farming company, his last role was assistant farm manager with a large-scale arable business and his genuine passion for the sector means he understands a lot of the challenges farmers face.

“I’ve always worked in farming and can appreciate how Miscanthus can play a part in a growers wider rotation,” says Jonathan.

“I’ve been visiting many Miscanthus crops around the UK to get a really good understanding of Miscanthus growing and I’m keen to work closely with farmers to plant fantastic crops and improve yields even more, building on the outstanding work that’s already been done.

“It’s clear to see how Miscanthus benefits soil health, and its carbon storage capabilities mean it’s an exciting crop for growers to be involved with at the moment,” adds Jonathan.
