With more growers working with us this year, record yields and high quality crops across the board, we’ve been busier than ever. Since harvest, we’ve already produced 10,000 tonnes of pellets, supplied into Drax.
We’re now very close to finalising the production plans with Sundown our pelleting partners, for the remaining 16,000 tonnes of harvested crop we have left to process, for the rest of the year.
Sundown always takes a break from early August to mid-September, as they are busy processing their own wheat straw for pellet production. We have to accommodate this. It’s part of our strategy in using multi-media production plants to ensure maximum returns for our growers.
It’s important to advise that, while we’re working as hard as we can to collect bales ahead of the cereal harvest, there are a limited number of production weeks left before the main work on farms gets underway.
So, as a matter of priority, we’re collecting bales stored in barns and sheds that are only available up to cereal harvest.
Similarly, for all uncovered crop, we’re working hard to clear as much as we can, but there will be outside stock that will have to wait until mid-September to be moved. We incentivise our growers to store crop to maintain quality. And any remaining stored bales not collected before the cereal harvest (because they are in buildings not required for grain storage), we’ll aim to continue to clear from September onwards.
For these exposed bales, Terravesta highly recommends the use of sheets or old bales topped on stacks. The use of sheets or bales can reduce wastage by up to 20%, and the more the bales are protected, the more they will earn.
Thank you for your continued support. Keeping our growers informed is paramount to us. Should you have any queries, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
