Farmers, contractors, and industry professionals are invited to attend a Miscanthus supply chain and harvest open day, alongside research partner, Niab, to explore the Miscanthus supply chain and its role in sustainable farming and the latest Miscanthus research.
The event will take place on Wednesday 26th February in Lincolnshire, running from 10:00 to 15:00 and will be held at the farm of Miscanthus grower, William Cracroft-Eley, in Hackthorn near Lincoln.
This hands-on event will provide valuable insights into:

The event will feature a live Miscanthus harvest demonstration, showcasing advancements in breeding, planting technology, and crop monitoring. Attendees will gain insights into the economic and environmental benefits of this resilient biomass crop.
Key research from NIAB’s Centre for High Carbon Capture Cropping (CHCx3) project, funded by Innovate UK, will be highlighted, focusing on reducing CO₂ emissions, supporting farm resilience, and creating new carbon marketplace opportunities.
Attendees will witness a live Miscanthus harvest demonstration, gaining insights into its breeding, economic viability, and financial benefits for both growers and industry.
Speakers:
- William Cracroft-Eley, Terravesta chairman, and Florian Ilias, Terravesta managing director, presenting the business case for Miscanthus
- Dr Lydia Smith Niab, discussing insight into what crops to grow for strong carbon storage, outlining the Centre for High Carbon Capture Cropping project and how it will help farmers to grow more resilient crops.
- Dr Chris Ashman, post-doctoral research associate, IBERS, and Dr Michal Mos at Terravesta, will discuss the latest research into Miscanthus plant breeding
- Tim Russon, Lincoln-based contractor, will demonstrate field cutting
- Robert Meadley, agricultural business consultant, divisional partner at Brown and Co, will update on Sustainable Farming Incentive payments that Miscanthus is eligible for.
